Zero Step Entry and EZ-Access Threshold Ramps

One important feature of a universal design home is the zero-step, or curb-free entry.

Your home should have at least one entry point that has no step, and which can be entered by an individual in a wheelchair or using a walker. Every community benefits as handicap accessible and universal home design is promoted, thereby creating a housing stock that is accessible for all.

Threshold ramps are used at door entrance and at the bottom and top of ramps, at transition points. Thresholds ensure a smooth pattern of movement from a ramp or level porch into a home. EZ-Access threshold ramps are used to transition between a door and a landing or porch. Exterior door thresholds are sloped away from the door at a slope of 1/8 inch per foot. Beveled aluminum transition plates are installed at the ramp to ground transition to prevent the wheelchair from becoming imbalanced. The zero step entry and EZ-Access threshold ramps are essential for comfortable accessible living.
